This course delves into advanced techniques for generating coherent light, from continuous-wave to few-cycle pulses, within the critical yet challenging mid-IR spectral range (2\u201320 \u00b5m). It covers\u00a0cutting-edge\u00a0approaches, including solid-state, fiber, and semiconductor lasers (e.g., intra- and\u00a0intersubband\u00a0cascade lasers), as well as nonlinear optical frequency down-conversion techniques like difference frequency generation, optical parametric oscillators, and chirped-pulse optical parametric amplifiers. Emerging technologies, such as supercontinuum generation in microcavities, waveguides, and photonic crystal fibers, and methods for generating optical frequency combs, are also explored. The course highlights key applications of mid-IR lasers in spectroscopic sensing, nano-IR imaging, medical and defense fields, attosecond science, extreme nonlinear optics, and particle acceleration.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

        Konstantin\u00a0<\/span>Vodopyanov<\/span>\u00a0is a world expert in the field of mid-IR lasers, laser-matter interaction, nonlinear\u00a0<\/span>optics,<\/span>\u00a0and laser spectroscopy. He is the author of\u00a0<\/span>a<\/span>\u00a0recent\u00a0<\/span>book<\/span>: K.L.\u00a0<\/span>Vodopyanov<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>Laser-based mid-infrared s<\/span>ources\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>(<\/span>Wiley<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>2<\/span>02<\/span>0<\/span>)<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>Dr.\u00a0<\/span>Vodopyanov<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>has both industrial and academic experience<\/span>;\u00a0<\/span>he is an<\/span>\u00a0Endowed Chair & Professor of Optics and Physics at CREOL, the College of Optics & Photonics at\u00a0<\/span>Univ<\/span>ersity<\/span>\u00a0of Central Florida.\u00a0<\/span>His\u00a0<\/span>research\u00a0<\/span>group holds various world records in the field of mid-IR\u00a0<\/span>lasers,\u00a0<\/span>optical paramet<\/span>ric devices<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0ultra-broadband\u00a0<\/span>frequency combs<\/span>, and high-resolution molecular spectroscopy<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0Dr.\u00a0<\/span>Vodopyanov<\/span>\u00a0is a Fellow of\u00a0<\/span>O<\/span>ptica (former OSA)<\/span>;<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the international society for optics and photonics<\/span>\u00a0(SPIE);<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>American Physical Society (APS), and the<\/span>\u00a0UK Institute of Physics (IOP).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>He delivered numerous invited<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>keynote,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and plenary\u00a0<\/span>talks and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>tutorials on the subject of mid-IR\u00a0<\/span>technologies\u00a0<\/span>at major\u00a0<\/span>scientific\u00a0<\/span>symposia<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
